Similarly Human, Different Lives

with 4 comments

Yes, the title comes from the Chinese saying 同人不同命, meaning we are all similarly humans, but we lead different lives.

I just read Jac’s Blog and it seems that she’s so stressed at work until she lost 4kg. While I would certainly need to lose some weight, I think Jac’s not the right candidate for this weight lost programme.

Unfortunately as well, 同hamster不同命. Casper made an escape and when wifey came home, he was not in his cage and we found him in the kitchen drain drowned to death. This is his 5th month birthday. Sigh. Silly hamster, why did you choose to jump into a drain when you could go elsewhere? We will miss you. :(

And then while some people very heng to stay in landed property, I have to live in a measly overpriced government flat (a.k.a pigeon hole) with a bloody inconsiderate neighbour upstairs who doesn’t sleep. I mean, there isn’t once I see their room lights go off, not even at 4am in the morning. Actually, I don’t care if they don’t sleep – maybe they do shift work – but that’s not my problem. If they choose not to sleep then they should be considerate to the rest of the people who’s sleeping.

I keep hearing wooden furniture dragged along the floor, heavy objects dropping and people walking like King Kong. It’s not occasional – I can tolerate that. It’s persists through the night like a JavaBean. I mean, I can have a great day at work and have a great dinner with friends, but the moment I come home, these noises totally ruins my entire day (and sometimes the next.) These aren’t continuous background noises that our minds could filter (e.g. people chatting, piano playing, traffic). These are sudden bursts of loud noises that makes me jump, irritated and stressed out. It’s not I can’t cover the noise, but it’s so resonant that it overpowers my TV!

Back in December 2009, I tried going upstairs and talking sense into them, but it ended up into a yelling session on the 3rd approach. Then I resorted to knocking on my ceiling with a wooden stick and calling the police. The noises went away for a while, and recently they’re back again. I knocked on the ceiling a few times, but it seems they’ve decided to turn rebellious and knock back. So that’s it, I’m fucking fed up already, I’ve had enough, no more Mr. Nice Guy. I’m going to a psychiatrist because I’m so stressed out, and I am going to send them a lawyer’s letter. If talking and knocking doesn’t work, maybe paying for legal fees will.

Three Week Summary

without comments

Renovation has officially completed; we made our final payment last Thursday and the final touches were done yesterday. All the furniture are in as well. Mode Studio didn’t screw up and delivered the remaining furniture as scheduled.

I pay a lot of attention to detail and there were some minor issues with the renovation (as usual). Carpentry, plumbing and electrical works needed personal supervision but overall we rate our interior designer highly for their design creativity and project management. We are especially pleased with their flooring, painting and solid surface works.

I’ve been very busy but I will post some photos of the completed work soon.

Work as usual, hamsters are still alive and kicking. I’m trying to find some time to pick up my R/C hobby again as the sloping season’s back but my time has been all tied up by the house renovation. Cleaning a new house has proved to be quite a chore as the dust settles each day.

I have also attempted cooking. BTW, it’s not exactly cheap for two persons to cook at home. Breakfast is easy but I haven’t been very successful with my first dinner dish. However, the wife makes nice Chinese soup dishes!

It’s just one more month before the year comes to an end. Time to close yet another chapter and kick start 2010. It will be a very exciting new year!

Hamsters, Day 21!

with one comment

We wanted to wait a bit more before giving them names from the musical scale (as there were seven of them), but unfortunately on the morning of 11 Sep 2009, I found one of them dead. I just got out of bed and was counting noses… 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6… and… 1 head! Yes, I saw a head with no body. :(

The poor hammy was probably bitten to death by the mother and then later cannibalized by the rest. We buried it under a tree at my block.

After the incident, we separated the hammies from their mother. They are all getting cuter and furrier as the days pass. We’re also finally able to tell their genders this week.

Look at how they sleep!

Diarrhea or “Lao Sai”

without comments

From the Greek, “diarrhoia” meaning “a flowing through” (taken from Wikipedia).

Everything’s flowing through non-stop, allright! For the past two days I’ve been making countless toilet runs. I haven’t eaten anything much except for some bread and drinking lots of H2O and 100Plus.

Coincidentally, Straits Times has reported a 50% increase in diarrhea cases this week.

BTW, hamsters are growing really quick and they should be ready for adoption next week!

Sorry folks. I know you all love my blog, but really that’s all a flowing man can blog for now.

Ooh, the feeling’s back. Gotta go…

Hamster Pups on Day 7

without comments

Nothing much changed. They still sleep all day and look like tiny little sausages, though tiny little hairs and ears have grown.

Hamsters sleeping, day 7.

Hamsters sleeping, day 7.

They’ve begun grooming themselves and eating some food. Hopefully in two days’ time they’ll wander around the cage so I can play with them!

Little Hamsters!

with 2 comments

Our female hamster gave birth to a litter of seven pups on the morning of Aug 22, 2009! The pups are 3 days old now and mummy hamster just happened to carry them over to somewhere else where I could take some good shots.
